Sierra Carter of the Akron Ward will compete in the state equestrian division for the Special Olympics. The competition will be held in Cincinnati in August of this year.
The 18-year-old has been riding for seven years, and has grown to love Freckles, the horse she rides. She trains in all weather, two to three times a week.

In mid-March, Sierra traveled to Cincinnati to attempt to qualify. Her mother and trainer also had to become certified to be trainers and chaperones in the Special Olympics organization.
Sierra will be the second person to represent Summit County at the Special Olympics. She will compete in English riding and English showmanship independently.
Qualifying for the Special Olympics is something many athletes aspire to do, but not many succeed. The Akron Stake sends its best wishes to Sierra as she competes in August.
