The Mutual theme for 2018 is Doctrine and Covenants 19:23 “Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.” This theme will be the focus throughout 2018 in ward/branch and stake activities. As youth learn more of the Savior this coming year and pray about what you are learning, their testimony of the Savior will deepen.

During the Savior’s mortal ministry He continuously served those around him. In studying the four gospels, Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John, we find many examples of the Savior’s service. The Savior served by teaching those around him. He served at His mother’s request by turning water into wine at a wedding feast. The Savior served in other ways. He healed a sick young man. He cast out evil spirits. The Savior healed the lame, the deaf, the blind and the lepers. He raised the dead. He healed the woman with an issue of blood. The Savior fed 5,000 with five loaves and two fishes. He blessed the little children. He forgave sins. He washed the feet of his disciples. The Savior, in His greatest service and our greatest gift, sacrificed His life for each of us providing us with the Atonement. We are taught to learn of our Savior’s example and strive to become more like Him. We should strive to serve others. We should focus more on others and less on ourselves.
How can we follow the Savior’s example and be His hands?

Here is one idea. The holiday season is quickly approaching. What better time than now to serve others. As we enter the gift-giving season let us find ways to emulate the Savior’s example to serve others to our family, our friends, our neighbors and even strangers on the street. Let our service to others be the gift we give this Christmas. The Savior showed no restraint in serving others. Let us be His hands and freely serve our fellowmen.
