Self-Reliance Spotlight

We are excited to introduce a new monthly self-reliance spotlight to our stake newsletter. Each month we’ll share any updates regarding our stake self-reliance initiative, highlight an importance self-reliance principle and extend an invitation.

Stake Update

On Sunday, September 24, we held our first Stake Self-Reliance Devotional in the Canton Building. We had a packed house and although we had some initial challenges with the A/C we had a great, interactive event. From that Devotional, we formed 13 small self-reliance groups across the stake. The groups meet weekly to further develop their skills in one of the four curricula. The groups are now all up and running and already seeing the blessings.

Principle – Self-Reliance is a Principle of Salvation

“Without self-reliance one cannot exercise these innate desires to serve. How can we give if there is nothing there? Food for the hungry cannot come from empty shelves. Money to assist the needy cannot come from an empty purse. Support and understanding cannot come from the emotionally starved. Teaching cannot come from the unlearned. And most important of all, spiritual guidance cannot come from the spiritually weak.”

“The Celestial Nature Of Self-Reliance,” Ensign, Nov. 1982, 93
