As we are commanded to share the gospel, the Canton Ward teamed up with Massillon Ward and set up a booth at our local fair with hopes of missionary experiences. Massillon focused on Family History while Canton as an opportunity to show that we are not the “cult” people have painted us as. In the morning people seemed to look the other way and walk faster, not wanting to make contact with us. A minister who had spoken with our missionaries in the past was very willing to speak with us and tell us how he felt about the church and the many young men he had met over the years. You could see the respect he had for our young men and all they do. That alone is a testament of the importance of the work they do. As the day wore on we had some people stop by and ask questions. Mostly on family history but there seemed to be a small interest in the gospel.

On the last day, we had a little bit of help to pull people over. The model of the Salt Lake Temple drew attention and a crowd at times. Most wanted to know about it and it was a great way to sneak in the restoration when we talked to people. One person who came to the booth was looking for a way to jump-start her family history again. While Sister Domenick of the Canton Ward spoke with her she not only asked questions about how to get into family history; she also wanted to know about the Salt Lake Temple. Brother Domenick, who had built the model, was more than happy to explain anything and everything to anyone who asked. In a little over a week we had reached thousands of people and who knows how many more people will be touched by this experience. I spent three days at the booth and even though we were not in a church, a temple or even a historic site; there was definitely a great spirit with us. It seemed to wrap the booth in comfort and peace. This was truly a great event.
