The Transition Doesn’t Need to be “Jarring”!

This past summer the Medina Ward Relief Society put together a special “Transition to Relief Society” program for our newly graduated senior girls. We had seven young women graduate from high school this year and felt inspired to help ease the transition from the Young Women’s program to Relief Society. Our presidency planned a special invitation in a jar with some candies that went along with our theme “The Transition Doesn’t Need to be “Jarring”, We won’t “Dessert” You! for these seven young ladies.

The day of the event the girls were welcomed by the sisters and seated in the front of the room. We asked a member of the Young Women’s presidency to introduce each of the young ladies to the Relief Society sisters. After the introductions, the newly introduced sisters passed out various sizes and lengths of toilet paper to the “seasoned” sisters. The sisters then counted the number of sheets in their strand of toilet paper and took turns telling as many things about themselves as the number of sheets of toilet paper they pulled out of the bag. It was a wonderful experience for all to get to know better. A video about the 175th birthday of the Relief Society was shared, as well as the motto and purpose of Relief Society. A week prior to this special event, the Medina Ward sisters were asked to write down a few words about what Relief Society means to them. To close our special meeting, each new sister was given a word collage to represent what Relief Society means to the sisters of the Medina Ward. It was an amazing event and all the sisters, young and old, new and seasoned, felt the love from their fellow sisters in Relief Society!

For sharing time we had the missionaries come and do “a day in the life of a missionary” The elders brought in a suitcase filled with all the things they use on a daily basis. Which included a very worn frying pan to represent how they cook for themselves and ties that they have sewn by hand. They gave each child a picture of Jesus and a small treat. The children thoroughly enjoyed the missionaries!
