February Stake Youth Activity

by the Stake Young Women Presidency – Becky Semus, Margie Morrison, Jessica Spittle, Heather Most

Our most recent Stake Youth Activity was a great success. This ice skating activity has skatersbeen offered for the past several years. The Akron Stake Youth ages 12-18 were invited to attend an Ice Skating Activity at The Alice Noble Ice Skating Facility in Wooster. While the dances and youth conference do not allow for the Beehives and Deacons to attend, this activity is one that is open to ALL the youth. We had over 135 youth and leaders attend.  The youth had the opportunity to skate for up to 2 hours or to use the time off the ice to socialize and/or play board games. Everyone worked up quite an appetite skating. About halfway through the activity, everyone took a break for pizza. pizza and waterWhile there were a few minor injuries, thankfully this year we had no major injuries on or off the ice. One of the best parts of this activity for the leaders is sitting back and watching the youth positively interacting with each other. They have the opportunity to visit with friends from other wards. They have the opportunity to reconnect with those they have met at Boy Scout Camp, Girls Camp, dances and/or youth conference. The ice skating activity provides a low key setting for the youth to gather and visit with each other. It’s a time for them also to recognize that there is really a large group of LDS youth in this area with their same values and standards. While speaking to several youth about their skating experience, we were repeatedly told that this activity is a favorite among the youth.
