The Canton Ward had a few recent activities focused on temple and family history work. In March, led by the elders quorum, our ward organized a temple trip that coincided with the youth trip. The coordination and planning was extensive to make sure as many ward members could attend as possible. The youth along with leaders and parents, arrived early on Saturday morning to perform baptisms for many of their ancestors. Once the youth finished in the temple, they watched the children for the adults performing temple work. Due to the overlap in temple sessions good friends of the Canton Ward family, volunteered to watch the children in the transition. Afterward, the Relief Society organized a very nice meal and we were able to eat and socialize before returning to Canton.
In preparation for their day in the temple, the youth decided to challenge each other, boys vs. girls, to see which group could bring the most family names to the temple. The winner would have the privilege of being served a meal at the next mutual activity. The reward seemed very inspiring. Both groups found many names through working with their families and taking time in the family history library. There were so many names found that many of the youth had family names to take on their July baptism trip as well.
Members of the Canton Ward who need help performing ordinances make their ancestors names available in the family history library. The youth have taken some of these names to the temple, in addition to their own, to help the ward members.
The final temple and family history activity was a Pioneer Day indexing event. The ward got together on a Wednesday night and had a dessert potluck and games to go along with indexing. The family history library was busy during the activity and the ward members enjoyed eating, playing, and talking together.
These events could not have been possible without the time and talents of many ward members.
