Family History Fair Recap

by Jeanne Peugh, Director

The fourth annual Akron Ohio Stake Family History Fair was held on October 12th. The fair brought in over 140 attendees, including 95 who are not members of the church. Thirteen different classes were offered to fair attendees and lunch was provided and served by members of the Tallmadge Ward. Ward and stake family history consultants were available to help with individual questions and search concerns.

However, it is not about the numbers, classes, or free food, but it is about feeling the spirit of this great work. Moreover, it is feeling the spirits of our ancestors– our brothers and sisters who need our help. One of the attendees put it best, “I had felt very strongly about coming and the personal need to attend the Slovak research class and at the last minute, my mom also felt the need to be at the fair. My mom has spent years trying to find her great grandfather and all avenues have failed. He never came to America, but we knew the town in Slovakia where he was from. Sister Titera’s presentation included information she found doing a friend’s genealogy. The small town she mentioned was the same town my second great grandfather was from. Even one of the names from her research was a witness at my great grandfather’s baptism. It was not by accident that we were prompted to come. The spirit of Elijah was working from beyond the veil. We are very hopeful that Sister Titera’s skills and knowledge will finally help us connect the dots and find another generation of the family. Thank you for all of your efforts.”

Your ancestors are waiting for someone… for you, to care enough to help!
