The Akron Ohio Stake again donated a tree to the Akron Children’s Hospital Festival of Trees fundraiser at the John S. Knight Center. President Talley chose the theme of “Light the World” to share the service ideas associated with the Church’s Light the World initiative. The tree was adorned with handmade ornaments from several children in the stake as well as a few service ideas worldwide. The word “serve” was handwritten on ornaments in several different languages. A boxed gift set which included a book, “Soft Enough for a King” a Christmas tradition of service, a pretty wooden manger and a sweet little baby Jesus along with “straw” where children, a family, or a group could write their kind acts of service and place them in the manger during the month of December. The manger was incorporated directly into the tree and the more straw added, the softer the bed becomes for the baby Jesus on Christmas morning. The tree was designed and decorated by Margie Morrison, Kim Roncaglione and Maria Kremer of the Massillon ward and took approximately 31 hours of work to complete.
